#18 Voter Registration Drive

Voter Registration Drive  Topic: Service  Learning Outcome 3: Initiate and Plan a Fieldwork Experience  During the Civics 101 A-Term, we planned a voter registration drive for our school. First, Ms. Harrison directed our research with resources she found. Then we got approval from our school directors to hold our voter registration drive. To advertise our drive we wrote a script and shot a short PSA video with general information about voter registration that was played during the A-Term presentations. The following week we held our drive with a physical station and an online drive.  While we were researching for our Voter Registration Drive we learned that we can’t actually register people to vote, unless we are official voter registrars. We can only offer them the resources and facilitate the process by giving them the link to fill out the form or handing out envelopes to mail them. Since I was the only student from the Civics class who was online, I was in ch...

#17 Dancing: Ballet is Very Tiring

Dancing #1 Topic: Activity  Learning Outcome 1: Identify areas of strength and develop areas for growth  Last night, my grandmother was reminding me to exercise since I've been doing online learning. She gave me a few tips and exercises to do everyday, like simple arm movements and back stretches. I was reminded of the warm-ups I would do from ballet back when I had been taking classes, about more than 5 years ago. Since I still do those stretches occasionally, it wasn't too difficult but not as effortless as it used to be. Then I started barre work using my bookshelf as a makeshift barre. I did an old routine consisting of plies (slight bending of the knees) in every position which was all I managed o do. It was extremely difficult ...

#16 Birthday Party

Birthday Party  Topic: Service  Learning Outcome 3: Initiate and Plan a Fieldwork Experience  Last Saturday, my family celebrated my brother's birthday early with a birthday party in our front yard. We just invited a few friends and neighbors over for the afternoon. We had a bouncy house set up, an egg hunt planned and an arts and crafts station. I helped set up the birthday banner and fill the Easter eggs while my parents got the food. Then we arranged the tables and chairs in the driveway.  During the party, I remember being very busy with the arts and crafts station. We had Perler beads and pegboards for the guests to make keychains. My mom and I were in charge of ironing the beads and attaching the keychains. Between shifts I tried to make conversation with the parents since my dad went to pick up the cake. It was more fun than I expected especially since most of the guests were under 9 years old, but I was still pretty exhausted by the end of the day....
