Creative Writing Club #1
Topic: Service
Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a fieldwork experience
Going into the start of the school year knowing that everything will be online requires a different approach towards running a club and social networking. Creative Writing Club was a club that I was hesitant to join as a freshman since I would have to let others critique my writing and I have always been very shy about sharing my work. I was also intimidated by all the other members since they seemed to be much more experienced than I was. I wasn't comfortable with joining until the other club members started coming less and less later in the year. This year, I hope that I can use the distance in distance learning to my advantage by making the club environment seem more welcoming for new students. With a more technology based learning environment, more information sharing platforms like Padlet and Flipgrid have been introduced, making interactions with people seem much less daunting than having to encounter them in person.
I remember looking forward to club meetings every Wednesday after joining club because I was excited to see what activities were planned for us. Being able to run the club now as a co-leader puts it into a different perspective, now I'm looking forward to how the members will make the activities memorable and how they will benefit from meeting with us. With my fellow co-leaders, I have made plans over the summer for a more structured syllabus containing preparations for lessons on different writing techniques. We have really high hopes that our reforms to the club will bring in a good turnout for our first meeting and that it will keep people interested.
