Creative Writing Club #3

Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a fieldwork experience
We finally had our first club meeting! We had three new members show up and everything went smoothly except for some early departures. We started off our meeting by going straight into the lesson. It worked well as a segue into our prompt because it was specifically about how to approach a prompt. We spent the next 15 minutes writing about our first writing prompt: "It was the first snowfall of the year." I personally wanted my entry to have a melancholic feeling but I channeled too much negativity ended up writing a complaint letter about snow. Everyone shared what they had worked on which was mostly about how romantic and beautiful snow is. I realized that most of us only really had about a paragraph of writing. That worked well on time but that wasn't enough to really give a lot of feedback on. We decided that next time we should have a little open time at the beginning of our meeting for people who wanted to share what they had added on to their previous prompt or if they had other writing to share.
After prompt writing and sharing, we talked about comfort levels since a lot of what we're doing is sharing our work with each other and sometimes that can be very personal. I was happy to hear that everyone was pretty comfortable with our meeting setup and with the other members even though we agreed it could be awkward sometimes. There was also some discussion on a change in meeting time. We sent out a form for everyone and we will most likely be changing our meeting time to Tuesday. I'm glad that our first meeting was a success.
