Latin Ballroom Dancing
Topic: Activity
Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
In Spanish, we had been preparing for a Latin ballroom dance class for all Spanish students with a professional dance teacher. We had been practicing salsa steps in class and watching videos of the dance classes from previous years. I remembered some moves I learned from when I was a freshman so I was pretty excited for the dance class.
The dance teacher didn't only teach us salsa this time, he also showed us how to do the merengue and bachata. The merengue was easier because it only consisted of two steps which felt kind of like marching. Bachata had a lot of lateral movements which made the turns a bit difficult. Salsa felt more familiar but we also learned several new turns even though we didn't get to the dips. I also got to learn how to do the leader's part which is something I have wanted to try. Usually, the women are the followers mostly because it's easier to do the turns in terms of height.
I already knew a little bit of salsa from the last dance class and I had learned merengue outside of school. I had never tried bachata before so I learned something new. Overall, it was very fun and I'm glad we got the opportunity to have the Latin dance class again.
